ABOUT THE
FESTIVAL
Cinemini is Cinema Akil’s ongoing programme for young audiences, bringing early daytime weekend screenings to Cinema Akil’s home at Alserkal Avenue. Built on the belief that a love of cinema starts early, the programme brings together animation and family films from around the world, some newly released, others beloved classics returning to the big screen, each one chosen with children and their families in mind.
The programme offers a mix of tender coming-of-age stories, adventurous journeys and quietly profound tales that speak to children without speaking down to them. The current lineup includes Dounia and the Princess of Aleppo, a gentle animated journey following a young girl displaced by war, guided by memory and imagination; The Tower, a story of friendship, family and hope told through the eyes of a young Palestinian girl growing up in a refugee camp; and Flow, the wordless, Academy Award-winning fable of survival and companionship.
Cinemini isn’t just about entertaining children, it’s about introducing them, early and gently, to the wider world of storytelling: different languages, places and ways of feeling, all through the shared ritual of watching together in the dark. Families are invited to make it a weekend ritual, one film at a time.
