Cinema Akil & Sole DXB come together for the 5th year in a row to present a film program of four incredible stories of music, culture and legacy. The film program will begin at Cinema Akil on November 25th with a pre-screening of the film Vibrations tracing the steps of Kuwaiti director, Zahed Sultan, on his journey to do a recording project in Jamaica.
The program follows with a Sole DXB takeover at Cinema Akil on Tuesday, December 3rd starting with Stephanie Black’s documentary Life and Debt, which examined the way in which globalization and the IMF have impacted the Jamaican economy in the past 25 years. The night will close with the much awaited documentary, Martha, a tribute on the life and work of the iconic NYC photographer Martha Cooper.
The film program will close on December 5th on the main stage at Sole DXB with the short FLIGHT by Kia Moss an inspiring story of dreams and ambitions. It will be followed by the feature doc RUDEBOY by Nicholas Jack Davos. A documentary film about the love affair between Jamaican and British youth culture through the lens of one of the most iconic record labels in history, Trojan Records.
Audiences will be transported to a moment of a greater appreciation of the elements that lead to the elements of music and street culture showcased this year at Sole DXB.
